Bio


Christian Fatu is recognized as one of today’s most exciting young violinists, praised for his virtuosity, technique and bright artistry. He has presented numerous solo recitals for audiences in Austria, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Hungary, Italy, Tunis, Israel, Japan and the United States. Fatu has also taken part in many music festivals around the world such as the International Music Academy in Freyburg, Maine (2007); the International Summer Academy Prag-Wien-Budapest in Austria (2004); the Kyoto International Music Students Festival in Japan, representing the Bucharest National University of Music (2003); and L’Octobre Musical de Carthage in Tunisia (1999).

He has won over 25 prizes in various national and international competitions including the First Prize at Kingsville International String Competitions, Texas, USA (2008); First Prize, Naftzger Auditions, Wichita State University, Kansas, USA (2009 & 2008); First and Grand Prize at “Remember Enescu” International Violin Competition in Romania (2000); First Prize at the “Rovere D’Oro” International Music Competition, Italy (1996); and First Prize at “Citta di Stressa” International Music Competition, Italy (1995 & 1994). The Murnauer Tagblatt in Germany praised his “wonderful virtuosity as well as perfect technique.”

Born into a musical family in 1983, Fatu began studying violin at the age of 4 and made his debut at age 16 in a performance of the Bruch Concerto with Bucharest’s National Radio Symphony Orchestra. Subsequently he appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Romania and the United States, including the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, the Iaşi Philharmonic and the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra. In 2001, the Romanian Union of Musical Critics awarded him its annual “Young Musician Debut” prize.

Throughout his career, Fatu participated in Master Classes with renowned artists such as Stefan Gheorghiu, Robert Szreder, Erich Gruenberg, Eric Rosenblith and Vladimir Spivakov.

Following formative studies at the “George Enescu” Music Lyceum in Bucharest, Fatu earned an Bachelor's degree at the National Music University of Bucharest, Romania and a Masters degree at Park University, Parkville MO, USA. Currently he is pursuing an Artist Diploma at the Park University under the direction of Ben Sayevich.

Between 2010 - 2011 Fatu was part of the UMKC Graduate Strings Fellowship Quartet, a prestigious professional String Quartet training program.

His debut recording From Bucharest to Kansas City, a self-released album, was described as "a sort of musical travelogue, telling the story of Fatu's own life-journey" in a review by the Independent of Kansas City. In July 2010 joined by the Russian pianist and wife Victoria Fatu - Martirosyan, Fatu released his second CD entitled New Beginnings on Tzigane Music Label featuring works by Debussy, Ravel, Bartok and Tchaikovsky.

Fatu resides in Kansas City together with his wife Victoria and their new born baby girl Vivienne Nicole. In his spare time he enjoys photography, literature, high-tech gadgets, cycling and jogging.
